Dr. Baraniuk is one of the founders of the Open Education movement and has been involved in a variety of open ed projects since founding Connexions in 1999, including
OpenStax textbooks - publishing free, high-quality college, AP, and K-12 textbooks
- OpenStax Assignable - an intelligent practice and assessment system that leverages the latest results in cognitive science and machine learning and integrates easily into the campus LMS
- OpenStax Research - investigating new ways to make education more amazing
- OpenStax CNX (Connexions) - one of the world's first and largest open education platforms
During the 2023-24 school year, OpenStax' 68 free and open-source texts are in use by 7.5 million students at 74% of all US colleges and universities. Since OpenStax' founding in 2012, students have saved over $2.5 billion.
